Key Responsibilities

The Digital Customer Engineer (DCE) is a trusted technical advisor and a core contributor to Cloudflare’s technical go-to-market strategy. Working as part of a pooled team, you will support Small and Medium Business (SMB) and Digital Native Business (DNB) customers across the complete customer lifecycle - from initial technical discovery and validation through onboarding, adoption. You will bridge technical strategy and business value by helping customers design fit-for-purpose Cloudflare architectures, realize measurable outcomes, and confidently expand their use of the Cloudflare platform. Sitting within the GTM organization and reporting to a Customer Engineering leader, you will operate against shared team and territory goals while using AI-assisted workflows, standardization, and automation to serve customers efficiently and consistently, at scale.
Technical Validation: Partner closely with Account Executives to lead technical discovery, capture business requirements, and map customer infrastructure to fit-for-purpose Cloudflare architectures and solutions. Define the scope, success criteria, and evaluation plans for Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and other technical validations. Deliver tailored technical presentations, architectural diagrams, and demonstrations that show how Cloudflare addresses specific performance, security, reliability, and developer-platform challenges.
Customer Adoption & Value Realization: Guide customers through onboarding and adoption by developing structured success plans and architectural guidance tailored to their goals and environments. Serve as a trusted technical contact and help customers apply configuration best practices across use cases such as DNS migrations, Zero Trust rollouts, and WAF optimization. Partner with Account Executives and other Cloudflare teams to support customer health, manage risk, and identify opportunities for expansion.
Commercial Accountability & Expansion: Contribute to shared team and territory targets tied to new business, customer adoption, retention, and account growth. Help customers deepen their use of the Cloudflare platform and identify relevant cross-sell and upsell opportunities based on customer goals and product usage. Contribute to customer value reviews that translate Cloudflare capabilities and adoption into measurable business outcomes.
Trusted Advisory: Act as a trusted technical advisor throughout the complete customer lifecycle, building strong relationships with technical and business stakeholders. Provide guidance on architecture, security posture, developer platforms, AI control layers, and adoption strategy. Identify technical risks or adoption barriers early and recommend practical steps to improve customer outcomes.
AI Orchestration & Workflow Automation: Leverage AI agents, Large Language Models (LLMs), and internal platforms to automate routine tasks such as RFP/Security Questionnaire responses, sandbox provisioning, basic telemetry monitoring, and internal/external documentation, reclaiming your time for strategic customer advisory.
Education & Enablement: Partner with Enablement and other internal teams to design, build, and maintain reusable technical resources. Create and deliver demonstrations, workshops, architectural guidance, and technical documentation that improve consistency and accelerate customer adoption. Share knowledge and reusable assets with the wider team to continuously raise the organization’s technical baseline.
